Santé Spa has been a silent monster in Pune for some time now. They are not celebrated like how some big players are, they are not flashy and they are so quiet. This, ladies and gentlemen, is one of the best places in Pune !
Being a ‘hardcore’ non vegetarian, I was very, very sceptical to try out a place which offers ‘healthy’, ‘veg’ food ( 2 words which I hardly use). ‘The job demands it, so we execute it’ was my attitude until the moment I had the first dish.
Spinach Spearmint Pineapple: A healthy drink after a very long time. Anti-oxidant, this. The drink wasn’t served chilled. That’s the way they recommend, however, I asked for couple of ice cubes for my liking. The drink was more of a pineapple flavor with a dash of spinach and hint of peppermint. What a start!
Special mention for the Dark Chocolate Milkshake which used khandasari sugar and soy foam. It was inexplicably delicious.
Spaghetti of Vegetables Salad: Spaghetti and healthy you ask ? Well, vegetables disguised as spaghetti. Flavorful combination of spaghetti sized sliced assorted veggies with pickled mango vinaigrette and khakra discs. Brilliant.
Southern Spiced Cottage Cheese Saute: Welcome to the gluten free world. Melt in mouth home-made cottage cheese sautéed and topped with spring onion and served with innovative watermelon chutney. Yet another winner.
Mediterranean Quinoa: Quinoa with apples, walnut, cranberries and Danish feta cheese. Flavor burst in mouth guaranteed. Yet another healthy and filling options.
Beetroot and Spinach Hummus: I have always loved a good hummus. Well, who hasn’t? Very nicely prepared beetroot hummus and spinach hummus served with whole grain khakra chips.
Farm Fresh: 1) The pizzas are stone grilled. 2) Base is ragi and whole wheat. The toppings include olives, jalapeños, sundried tomatoes, zucchini and more. The crust is as thin as it can get and the taste is a good as it can get for a healthy pizza.
Pizza Verde: The same ragi and wheat base with capers, zucchini, broccoli, fenugreek and arugula basil pesto. A real competition for the unhealthy pizzas in the market.
Bajra Riso: So much of nostalgia and sentiments attached to the bajra riso. One of my favorite from back home is the ‘kanji and payar’. When mom feeds you, there’s nothing like it. This is the closest it can get to a good kanji-payar combo. With spinach and green beans, the star here is protein rich and gluten free.
Thai Curried Vegetables: Creamy, coconut based yellow curry with gluten free veggies and served with brown rice. A perfect, wholesome option for mains.
Low fat Raspberry Cheesecake, Salted Caramel Mud Cake, Valrhona Chocolate Pie, Chocolate Matcha Truffles and the in-house Almond Cherry Muesli Ice Cream were the desserts served. All could be had guilt free J . Best is to order which flavors/ desserts you would like and it will mostly be as good as you expect. The pie could be a lil dry, best had along with the almond cherry muesli ice cream.
Santé Spa is one of those must visit places in Pune.
