Rising Pune Supergiant are all set to participate in their second IPL. The team has had a forgettable first outing in 2016 and they will be hopeful to turn the tables around this season. With healthy signings which includes the in-form Ben Stokes, Imran Tahir (in for Ashwin who was ruled out due to a sports hernia), Manoj Tiwary along with an existing line-up that includes Dhoni, Rahane, Du Plesis and Steve Smith, they can afford to be confident about a much better performance this year.
As a part of kicking off their promotional campaign, ‘Supergiants on Wheels’ was flagged off today by Rising Pune Supergiant Head Coach Stephen Fleming, Captain, Steve Smith, CEO-RPS Raghu Iyer and Hrishikesh Kanitkar who is the assistant coach of the team. A van dedicated for the fans in the city will be halted at different locations running trivia and other engagements with merchandise and game tickets to be won.
On the occasion, Head Coach, Stephen Fleming expressed his joy saying, “We have an excellent team composition this time and all our boys are in great shape as we plan to work in sync to take the team forward. With equal credence given to experience and youth and with Smith at the helm we are hopeful to start the season on a great note. Today the kind of crowd the van has drawn gives us great vibes with just few days left for the league to start. I am sure Pune will support us this way throughout the season”
Pune’s youth has always been enthusiastic about cricket more so when it comes to home team they will be happy to get their fan van. I am excited to be a part of the team again and look forward to a fantastic season.”, adds Kanitkar, Our very own ‘Punekar ‘ Assistant Coach.
Steve Smith, who took over captaincy from MSD, is also confident of his team and believes that with the experience of captains like MSD, Faf, Rahane, along with experienced players, they could very well be at the helm this year.
Ketto, Asia’s most visited crowd funding platform is running an inititative where they will be paying tribute to the Indian Army where the fans can share their respect to the soldiers. The campaign will be called #SuperGiantsforSoldiers powered by Ketto who have planned the entire initiative for team RPS. Fundraiser on Ketto to raise funds will be organized to create awareness for the PRC, Kirkee, Pune, a Rehabilitation Centre meant for the after care and rehabilitation of personnel’s of Defence forces of India who are medically boarded out i.e. retired form service due to spinal cord Injury while serving the nation.
The Coaches, captain and the management looks to be confident of their performance in this year’s IPL. It is also heartening to see the initiative with Ketto which will indeed turn out to be life changing for many soldiers who are in their hospital bed. I wish team RPS all the best for the upcoming matches.
